Leeds Golf Centre, the UK headquarters of the Leadbetter Academy, has been overwhelmed with entries for the ‘Up to Scratch’ challenge, in association with COBRA PUMA GOLF, with 223 people signing up to get into golf!
The Up to Scratch challenge was launched by Leeds Golf Centre to make the sport more accessible – aiming to get more beginners on the golf course by providing eight weeks of free tuition. Due to the overwhelming level of interest, Leeds Golf Centre decided to extend the competition and launch a second challenge giving a total of 42 beginners across two groups the chance to get their golf drive, chip and putt up to scratch.
Joe Feather, PGA Professional and Leadbetter Instructor at Leeds Golf Centre, explains; “We launched the Up to Scratch Challenge to make golf more accessible for beginners. The challenge gives those who are interested in golf the opportunity to develop both confidence and technique under the tuition of our professional instructors. The response from beginners across Yorkshire has been staggering, showing that there is great interest in learning the sport when given the opportunity to do so!”
“We’re also really passionate about getting more women playing and we’re thrilled by the level of interest expressed by females which accounts for 30% of entries
Chris, one of the beginners and a member of our Yorkshire Reporter team said, “I am really enjoying the course and the tuition is excellent. Golf is a sport I have always thought about doing. This great opportunity was just what I needed to get me started.”
Renowned for its first class facilities, Leeds Golf Centre is an ideal environment for new players to learn. Leeds Golf Centre’s PGA Professionals and Certified Leadbetter Instructors are ready to demonstrate what can be achieved when their world class expertise is put to the test.
The technique of each participant will be refined and developed over an eight-week period. Each participant will have an hour lesson, twice a week. The competition will culminate into a three-hole knockout event for each group, the first this month and the other group in October, which will see beginners showcase their finely tuned skill-set.
