Beanstalk – Reading Helpers Needed

Local News

In this month's paper we are celebrating the upcoming World Book Day. We know reading can give us much joy and pleasure. It opens our imagination and helps to give us future success in life. Sadly, however, there are thousands of children in this country who struggle with reading and for whom that door remains firmly closed.
Beanstalk is a national charity which aims to give the gift of reading to children across England. The organisation recruits, vets, trains and supports volunteer reading helpers to work in primary schools with children who have fallen behind with their reading. Their aim is to give children confidence and inspire them to enjoy reading for a lifetime.
In the Leeds and Bradford area they would love to hear from anyone who has a passion for reading, who would like to help children do the same and who can spare 1.5 hours, twice a week, for at least a year. No qualifications are needed, simply time, reliability and a genuine wish to share the precious gift of reading.
