Brownies and Rainbows from Leeds joined over 2,000 girls creating Magic and Mayhem at Girlguiding’s biggest event for girls aged five to ten.
The event was an opportunity for girls to experience the outdoors, have fun, challenge themselves, try new things, gain life skills and make new friends.
Girls from 6th Roundhay Brownies rose to the challenge as they took on a series of adventurous activities at Magic and Mayhem at Waddow Hall, Girlguiding’s activity centre near Clitheroe in Lancashire.
Over the weekend the girls tried a range of exciting activities spread across five themed zones; science, circus, dance, activity and fun. The activities included climbing, archery, fencing, juggling, magic tricks and science experiments.
After adventuring all day the Rainbows and Brownies camped all together under a giant big top tent. For many girls this was their first night away from home as part of their Girlguiding journey.
Maya and Harriet, 8, Brownies from 6th Roundhay Brownies, said: “The best thing was making kinetic sand because it was very messy. We would recommend that all Rainbows and Brownies go to Magic and Mayhem next year!”
Annie-Jo, Gabriella and Isla, 9, Brownies from 6th Roundhay Brownies, said: “We loved rock climbing because the instructors helped us when we got stuck, so that we got better and climbed higher than we thought we could. It was so much fun.”
Megan and Lola, 9, Brownies from 6th Roundhay Brownies, added: “The Instructors were nice and friendly, we tried fencing for the first time and really liked it.”
Magic and Mayhem is the second of three weekend events to be held at Girlguiding’s activity centres in Hampshire, Sussex and Lancashire during 2018, for girls and young women from across the country, and follows on from winter camp Sparkle and Ice and precedes summer festival Wellies and Wristbands.
