Busy As The Bees

Local News

There is plenty happening in the garden, July is a month when plants are growing rapidly, bedding plants are in flower and fruit is swelling. Its a time for keeping on top of the weeds, removing faded flowers, feeding and watering and there are lots of other jobs to keep you busy too.
It’s also that time of year when our attention turns to hedges, and in particular conifers such as the Leyland cypress ( x Cuprocyparis leylandii ), a hedge with an unfortunate reputation that can easily get out of hand if it is not kept in check. Leylandii was originally bred to provide a fast growing screen, but unfortunately its growth rate is so rapid that it can put on two foot (60cm) of growth each year and indeed in subsequent years.
