Crossgates’ Staff Full Of Beans For World’s Biggest Coffee Morning!

CharityLocal News

Crossgates Shopping Centre proudly supported Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning by organising a drop-in coffee and cake event at the Balcony Café.

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan Cancer Support’s largest fundraising event. In 2013 154,000 businesses and individuals signed up to host a coffee morning, helping to raise a record £20 million for the charity; the monies being used to fund nurses and support people and their families affected by cancer. The charity is expecting to raise even more in 2014.

The Balcony Café served Crosgates’ shoppers a variety of cakes in return for a donation to Macmillan. Lip-smacking sweet treats included strawberry cream cakes and vanilla puff slices! What’s more, Reece Parker and Debbie McCaffery from Crossgates undertook an Ice Bucket Challenge to add to the total monies raised for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Ice Bucket Challenge, a viral craze that began this summer, has encouraged people to pour icy water over themselves while being filmed and then donate to the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Association. This craze has since helped to benefit other charities too, including Macmillan.

Sophie Stephenson, Group Marketing Manager from Crossgates, said: “We were delighted to take part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning helping to raise funds for such a fantastic charity. It was great to see so many people taking part and having so much fun! A huge thank you to everyone who came along and donated.”
