The kitchen surfaces have been dusted with flour, the kettles are on and the sweet tooths are ready for Dementia UK’s biggest fundraising event, Time for a Cuppa. Dementia UK is the only charity caring for people with dementia and their families through dementia specialist Admiral Nurses. The event takes place 1st-8th March, with families, friends, schools, care homes, businesses and a whole host of others getting involved in the tea-filled fun.

Admiral Nurses provide the specialist dementia support that families need. When things get challenging or difficult, they work alongside families affected by dementia, giving them the compassionate one-to-one support, expert guidance and practical solutions, to help them face dementia with more confidence and less fear.

Since Time for a Cuppa began, it has raised over £850,000. Some highlights over the years include Alice in Wonderland inspired tea parties, a giant tea cosy being knitted and a number of Dementia UK ambassadors lending their support to the cause, such as Downton Abbey star Phyllis Logan and Call the Midwife star Judy Parfitt.

Dr Hilda Hayo, Chief Admiral Nurse and CEO of Dementia UK, says: “Dementia is an isolating condition which is going to affect more and more people. This is what makes our ‘Time for a Cuppa’ event so special as family, friends and colleagues can come together to talk about people they may have lost to dementia, or even be there for someone who is living with it right now.

“However families need specialist support too. This is what our Admiral Nurses provide but we urgently need more of them so that we can be there for every family with dementia. We are so grateful to everyone who has made Time for a Cuppa over the years and who are planning to this year.”

Dementia UK currently has 279 Admiral Nurses working across various care settings, including out in the community, care homes, hospitals and hospices. The charity also has its Admiral Nurse Dementia Helpline which is available to anyone with any questions around dementia via phone or email.
