I was very pleased to receive a letter from a lady who didn’t want to be named who sent me a direct valuation request after reading my article in The Yorkshire Reporter.
She told me she had a set of ‘The Avengers’ cars by Corgi Toys and remembered I had always said it was important to have the original box with toy cars and she had one in good condition. It was a Gift Set 40 containing John Steed’s Green Vintage Bentley and Emma Peel’s White Lotus Elan. It still had its two figures with it and the leaflet from the Corgi Club. She was unable to send a photo but could I tell her what it was worth.
This set is very rare and nearly always has the two figures missing. For those old enough to remember ‘The Avengers’ it was a secret agent thriller TV series from the 1960’s.
I managed to find an image of the Avengers set.
It may surprise you to know it would sell between £750-800 at auction.

Would you please place a valuation on the attached Cross Stich? This Cross Stich is a unique one of a kind in the world, due to its size 31 x 41ins. It was stitched by my wife, over a period of 4 years 2009-2013. As we are renewing our house insurance we need to know its true value for insurance reasons.

Firstly may I say what a fantastic example of cross stitch this is and I am not surprised it took over 4 years to make. It is a unique piece but very difficult to put an insurance valuation on.
The value of an item is based on previous sale prices, but as nothing like this has been sold before on the open market, we are unable to put an exact value on it. The only way to put an insurance value on it is to work out the cost of materials and time to replicate it. I am sure that this piece would be priceless to your family and its history.
