First home delivered by Leeds partnership

Local News

Spring is a time for fresh beginnings and a family in Little London now proudly hold the keys for the first house of almost 1,300 properties being refurbished by a partnership delivered through Leeds City Council.

The property was handed over to its tenant, Shamsadin Mahrami, by Councillor Peter Gruen, Leeds City Council’s Executive Board member with responsibility for neighbourhoods, planning and support services and Jon Hinchcliff, general manager from sc4L Keepmoat.

Leeds City Council is working with Sustainable Communities for Leeds (sc4L) Keepmoat to bring properties up to standard and make sure that extra housing is made available in the city. Through the project, The Council and sc4L Keepmoat will refurbish almost 1,300 properties, build 388 new homes and make environmental improvements to the Holbeck, Beeston Hill and Little London areas of the city.

Councillor Peter Gruen said:

“It has been a long journey to get to this stage and I am delighted that we are now seeing the dividends of all the hard work done by teams from the council and our partners in sc4L.”

“Delivering affordable, good quality housing for the people of Leeds is one of the most important targets for the council. Over the coming years we will be building, renovating and bringing back into use thousands of properties which will offer people homes for the future.”

The refurbishment is part of a wider council house growth programme that will also see the council building new homes for the first time in decades, with council housing stock increasing by more than 1000 new homes.
