The most difficult thing about running a small antique shop is getting new stock. We like to have new items coming into the shop to keep customers coming in. I have visited other antiques shops and year after year they have the same items (usually overpriced) on display – we like to keep our prices affordable in these difficult financial times. If you are having a clear out, please consider selling your unwanted items to our shop. You can bring them to us or we will call out with no obligation to give you a free valuation. This counts for single items right up to a full house clearance. People often think they are wasting my time, this is never the case as the shop is my hobby as well as my business and I never mind calling out as long as I get a cup of tea!
We have had some lovely things brought into the shop recently. One of my favourites is a miniature butcher’s shop with all hand carved joints of meat, legs of lamb even strings of sausages, complete with wooden butcher and butchers block, probably made in the 1920s. We also bought a large collection of trench art. I am always amazed at the skilled metal work that went into making these and the stories behind them. We also often get silk postcards from the First World War. Some of the messages written by the soldiers are quite sad.
I often wonder how some items turn up in the shop. Recently brought in was a 3000-year-old small terracotta figure from an Egyptian grave. How on earth has that turned up in Leeds? It was probably brought back from the war but who knows!

I also deal in collectables and recently purchased a large collection of around 300 toy cars which were the lifelong collection of a retired wagon driver. There must be a model of every wagon ever made! Old toy cars are very much collected, particularly old Dinky and Matchbox and are quite valuable – especially if they are boxed. Old wrist watches are doing well as are old pocket watches working or not, medals and coins are much collected as are old postcards. Particularly valuable is old jewellery, so if you are having a clear out before taking to the charity shop give us a call, you may be 100s of pounds richer!
