Leeds Hospital Heroes Announced

Health

In August this year Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust invited the public of Leeds to get behind their staff awards by nominating their hospital hero for an Unsung Hero award!
Giving patients, their families and the community of Leeds the opportunity to nominate a member of staff, the campaign has been extremely successful with the Trust receiving over 600 nominations in just six weeks.
Leeds Teaching Hospitals’ Unsung Heroes of 2015 were announced at a special awards event held at the Queens Hotel in Leeds. Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Professor Peter Giannoudis was nominated by patients, their families and our readers for his pioneering work in orthopaedics at Leeds Trauma Centre and for his development of the Day One Trauma Charity which is the first charity of its kind in the country.
Charge Nurse, Jon Pilkington, was nominated by colleagues for his excellent work and for being a supportive leader in a busy and stressful emergency department. Finally, Clive Eales was nominated by staff for going beyond the call of duty in his work as a porter at St James’s University Hospital.
Chief Executive, Julian Hartley said: “Leeds Teaching Hospitals’ Time to Shine Awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of both clinical and support staff and provide a platform for sharing good practice. I would like to thank our patients and their families for nominating their hospital heroes; we received some really heart-warming stories. I’d also like to thank our event sponsor Leeds Teaching Hospitals Charitable Foundation and Design and Print partner FDP Group, whose support has enable our awards to take place.”
