New State Of The Art Equipment Set To Boost Care At Leeds General Infirmary

A new machine will boost care for heart attack patients at Leeds General Infirmary.
The portable echo machine will mean that patients do not have to leave their bed for an ultrasound scan. This makes it quicker and more convenient for patients and gives instant results for doctors, so they can start treatment straight away.
The £25,000 new machine was purchased for Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust due to the charity of former hospital consultant Dr John Perrins.
Dr Wazir Baig, Consultant Cardiologist, said: “This very generous donation has been earmarked to purchase a cardiac ultrasound machine to be used on cardiology wards. Virtually every patient admitted to the cardiac wards needs an ultrasound scan. I know this equipment will really improve patient care. We are very grateful to the Take Heart Charity for their continuing support.”
Dr John Perrins, retired consultant cardiologist, said: “Donations like this can make the difference between good and very good in a hospital. I am delighted that Take Heart will continue their good work in association with Leeds General Infirmary Cardiac Research Trust.”
Dr Perrins worked for Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust for nearly thirty years. He ran the Leeds General Infirmary Cardiac Research Trust, a charity that took bequests to improve care for patients on the cardiac wards. Now he has retired, the funds have been transferred to Take Heart Charity, making the purchase of this valuable equipment possible.
Colin Pullan MBE, Chairman of Take Heart Charity, said: “This equipment will be of huge additional benefit to the gold standard of care that heart attack patients receive on Jubilee Wing. We’d like to thank Dr Perrins for enabling us to purchase this fantastic equipment.”
