Roger Raymond of Normanton, an avid biker is set to motor all the way from his home to John O’ Groats, Land’s End and back again next month, raising awareness and hopefully vital funds for the charity Prostate Cancer UK.
Armed with his trusty Honda CBR600FN, a tent and a collection tin he is aiming to raise at least £3000 for this worthy cause, and to encourage men to get checked out quickly by a doctor if they suspect a possible problem. He has connected with different motorbike clubs throughout the country and is hoping they will join him on their home turf during each leg of his ride.
Roger says, “I was horrified to hear that more men are dying each year from prostate cancer than women are from breast cancer. In fact, a man dies every 45 minutes from the disease here in the UK. Everybody knows someone who has been affected by cancer and men particularly need to realise that if in doubt they should get checked. Having done the trip twice before, I am hoping that with my sponsors behind me and the support of the public, I can raise lots of money and awareness for the charity.”
Roger has secured sponsorship from Castle Motorcycles who hosted his recent launch event, have collection tins on the premises and have maintained and serviced his bike in preparation for the journey. Bob Gordon, General Manager at Castle Motorcycles commented, “Working in a predominantly male workplace, we understand that Prostate Cancer UK is a worthwhile cause. Roger is a lovely man and we are proud to be supporting him and raising awareness of such a terrible disease.”
Also helping Roger on his way are BSB Motors in Normanton who have sponsored his fuel costs. They said, “We have known Roger for years and wanted to get on board by covering the fuel costs for his trip. We also have collection tins in the garage and want to support this important men’s charity.”
