I want to share with you how I was lucky enough to meet one of my inspirations Paige from WWE at Smyths Toy Store at the Crown Point Shopping Park. Paige kindly took the time out to answer a few questions just before her scheduled signing event at the toy store.
She was really friendly and gave me a big hug on arrival. She was also very interested to see what other articles I do in the Yorkshire Reporter. I took her a copy and she asked me if I like writing. She loved that we are a family run newspaper!
Paige grew up in Norwich in a family of wrestlers, and started wrestling herself at a young age. I asked her if she was glad to come back to the UK to wrestle. She said “I am so happy to be back in the UK because obviously I’m from here, this is my home country and I get to see friends and family. I feel like the UK fans are the best wrestling fans, they are so loud and rowdy I love them!” She loves Leeds too and said she was really happy to be in our city.I also asked her how she feels to be a WWE Diva, after wrestling from such a young age. Paige replied “It’s mind blowing, it’s still a little surreal, you don’t get used to it, like when I drove past just now and there are all those people who have just come to say hello, but yeah it feels incredible growing up watching the WWE, then having that goal to be in the WWE then finally reaching it is mind-blowing. My family are so proud!” She said that her parents go to all her shows in the UK and visit in America too, and that her Mum always cries when she watches her because she is so proud. (I thought it was just me with a crying mum haha).
The signing event which saw crowds of fans queuing from early morning was a great success and the atmosphere was incredible. You could see that the people waiting were of all ages and clearly big fans – as am I! Paige also appeared later that evening at the First Direct Arena as a referee in a Diva match between Team Bella vs Charlotte and Becky Lynch at the WWE show there. I attended the show with my Dad and had a great time!
