St Gemma’s Hospice Remembers The 50,000 Patients Cared For Since 1978 In A Spectacular Event At Leeds Town Hall

Charity

To mark the 40th Anniversary of St Gemma’s Hospice, the charity is inviting everyone to ‘A Night to Remember’. This is a unique chance for the people of Leeds to come together and remember all those loved ones who have been cared for by the Hospice over the last 40 years.

‘A Night to Remember’ is on 21 March 2018 from 7pm at Leeds Town Hall and will be hosted by ITV stars Duncan Wood and Christine Talbot. They will be there to expertly compere this spectacular evening which will reflect on the history of this much loved local charity.

Since it opened in 1978 the Hospice has cared for an astounding 50,000 people at the end of life. Each of them has been cared for as an individual, either in the Hospice or at home. The Hospice wants to remember them all individually too. During the event a spectacular cascade of 50,000 petals will fall from the top of the Town Hall, each one representing a patient who has been cared for in the last 40 years.

The evening will also include performances from the Leeds Symphony Orchestra whose incredible sound will fill the Victoria Hall. A special Hospice Choir will also debut, featuring nursing staff and volunteers from around the Hospice. People who have had personal experience of St Gemma’s care will share their stories, and there will the opportunity to hear about future plans for the Hospice.

The Hospice would love to see all the families, supporters, fundraisers, volunteers and staff who have been involved in St Gemma’s since it began in 1978 at this fantastic event. It will be a really special way to commemorate 40 years of outstanding care to patients and families, and a chance to thank the community who make it possible.

Emily Clark from St Gemma’s said:

“This event is a key part of our special 40th Anniversary year and we want to encourage the people of Leeds to come along. The Town Hall hosted the launch of the Hospice before it first opened, so it is really poignant that we return there 40 years later. St Gemma’s is a huge part of the Leeds community, and it is only because of everyone’s support that it continues today and into the future’.

Tickets are only £5 per person and can be bought in advance by calling Emily on 0113 218 5550 or visiting events.st-gemma.co.uk.
