Stockeld Park – Family Fun Day Out

Local News

Thanks to Stockeld Park and the Yorkshire Reporter, we the Clay family, were amongst the lucky ones to win a family ticket for a day out in the February edition.

Having 2 girls (aged 8 and 13) and a boy (aged 9) it is often hard to find something that they all look forward to and which everyone enjoys, but Stockeld Park certainly came up trumps, even on a drizzly Sunday in February!

After getting our wristbands, the children had to choose their first activity and being seasoned veterans of the Christmas Adventure they knew the routine and winning 2-1 in our democracy was the ice skating, so after a few unsteady moments re-acquainting ourselves with the ice, they were off chasing each other round and doing circuit after circuit.

Following our first ice skating session (we had a few more throughout the day) we enjoyed a wander through the Enchanted Forest, identifying the nursery rhymes depicted by the particular items in the woods, listening to the talking trees, playing the instruments and taking in some of the new features, including adventure play areas, suitable for all different age groups.

A well-deserved break and dry off was the next port of call, so we decided to go to the lovely Woodland Café and with the clothes hanging on the radiators we had a warm drink and a bite to eat. They serve really good homemade food using local produce and whilst in there the children could safely play in the adjoining area with the indoor jumping pillow and have a game of air hockey, with smaller children enjoying a trampoline, play house and wooden train.

Some parents were happily sat having a coffee watching their children skate from the warmth of the café viewing area, however, this is certainly not an option my kids would allow me to get away with!

We then ventured into the Maze; always a great source of frustration. Despite having maps scattered around, a couple of vantage points and some of the usually locked gates open, we still managed to get lost. This time they have helpfully given an emergency contact number for people with absolutely no sense of direction!

As is customary on our days out, we accumulated a number of leaflets, one of which confirms Stockeld Park is open for an Easter Adventure and Summer Adventure, with go-karts, electric scooters and roller skating.

We will definitely be back for more fun and games this year!
