Stoptober Is Back – Are You Ready For The Challenge?

Health

Stoptober is back, and NHS Yorkshire Smokefree is ready to support the region’s smokers in their mission to split up with smoking by ending their relationship with tobacco for good.

Nationally, the Stoptober campaign has driven over 1.9 million quit attempts and is the biggest mass-quit attempt in the country. Those who choose to quit with the support of their local stop smoking service are four times more likely to quit successfully.

Yorkshire Smokefree has over one hundred clinics across the region in Barnsley, Calderdale, Doncaster, Sheffield and Wakefield, with weekly group and one-to-one sessions available along with telephone and online support. Yorkshire Smokefree can also provide free cessation products.

All support is completely free and confidential, and 6 out of 10 people who access the service go on to quit for good, with the Yorkshire and Humber region recording the highest quit rates of any regional stop smoking service in the UK. Yorkshire Smokefree can support quitters with stop smoking aids, prescription medication and Nicotine Replacement Therapies.

Last year over 800 people signed up to use the Yorkshire Smokefree service during Stoptober alone and ambitions are even higher this year! They have Stoptober themed events running at many clinics, backed by a social media campaign raising awareness of the event and the health benefits of stopping smoking.

Sue Jones, Yorkshire Smokefree Stop Smoking Specialist said:
