The sights and sounds of the unforgettable 1960s are set to light up one of the city’s most historic houses this weekend with their annual Summer Sixties party.

In what promises to be a superb event, a range of activities celebrating the swinging sixties will be brought to life at Lotherton Hall on 10 August from 11am-3pm.

On offer is The Chris Berry Band, who will be playing iconic music from the decade, Space Hopper Racing, a Hula-Hoop competition and other retro giant games such as Jenga and Connect 4. Other popular games including Spirograph and Twister amongst others will also be available inside the house. The magic of the big top is also set to arrive through ‘A Dodgers Circus Workshop’ which will provide visitors with the opportunity to take part and try their hand at juggling, plate spinning and diablo.

For those people who remember the soundtrack of a night out in the 1960s, there will be the chance to listen to the juke box located in Lotherton Hall’s own café, and afterwards enjoy a barbeque and bar on the lawn.

Anyone in the best 1960s fancy dress could also receive a special prize, and in what is something not to be missed, any driver of a pre 1970s car can get into Lotherton Hall for free on the day!

Entry to the event, which this year will celebrate its third birthday at Lotherton Hall, is included within the general admission price.

A haven for a wide range of wildlife, the grounds of Lotherton Hall also feature a range of attractions including two play areas, a deer park, bird garden, shops and stables, a gift shop and café.

Once visitors have enjoyed the outside delights of Lotherton Hall, the inside of the house also has much to offer. This includes a range of rare items and collections, and a new interactive area that allows visitors to explore the story of one of Lotherton’s Hall’s most famous families the Gascoigne’s, as well as find out more about their travels around the world from the 1700s onwards. These sit aside a dressing-up room available in the house a range of tactile interpretation cabinets.

Councillor Lucinda Yeadon, Leeds City Council’s executive member for digital and creative technologies, culture and skills said:

“Our 1960s themed party at Lotherton Hall is always a brilliant day out, and we are really looking forward to welcoming both old and new friends to this year’s event.

“As always there will be a wide range of fun activities and events on offer for all the family to enjoy which will be played out to a magical soundtrack of the 1960s. It is always amazing to see the fancy dress that people arrive in to the event, and don’t forget if you own a pre-1970 car, entry is also free!”
