The world’s first crumbly cheese slice has been produced using Yorkshire Wensleydale and launched by Wensleydale Creamery, the famous cheesemakers set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales.
Sandra Bell, Marketing Manager at the Wensleydale Creamery, explains: “There’s been a huge increase in demand for cheese which is more convenient to use in everyday meals and snacks, from sandwiches to cheese on toast. Sliced cheese has become a household regular in weekly shopping baskets and we wanted to ensure that our fans were catered for, by providing them with their favourite cheese in a sliced format.”
Andrew Elphick, Cheese Shop Manager at the Wensleydale Creamery, said: “Cheese enthusiasts love the creamy, crumbly texture and flavour of Yorkshire Wensleydale. It has taken a while to get it right, but over the last twelve months our skilled cheesemakers have developed the slices to expertly hold their shape and texture, whilst maintaining the authentic taste we know and love.”
The branded Yorkshire Wensleydale slice packs proudly display the Wensleydale Creamery’s new ‘Only One Made in Yorkshire’ logo along with the European Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) logo, which differentiates the authentic Yorkshire Wensleydale from other Wensleydale cheese produced in other counties across the UK.
Sandra added: “Demand for Yorkshire Wensleydale has grown beyond its traditional place on the cheese board, and the popular crumbly cheese was voted the best for melting onto toast by the UK public*. We’re proud that we have now managed to develop the world’s first crumbly cheese slice with our Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese, handcrafted to our time-honoured recipe in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales.”
