After a hugely successful first series bringing in 1.5 million viewers weekly for Channel 5 everyone’s favourite veterinary practice is back.This time life at the Skeldale Veterinary Centre in Thirsk will be even bigger and better than ever with a ten-part run starting on April 12th, 8pm on Channel 5.
The Yorkshire Vet, based at the original James Herriot practice on which the hit ‘All Creatures Great & Small’ TV show was based and the famous books, will bring even more drama and heart-warming magic to our TV screens.
yorkshirevetreturns_twoThe drama of the daily events at the practice on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales has been captured for a second series by Yorkshire-based TV company Daisybeck Studios in a co-production with Group M Entertainment.
Julian Norton, who is the ‘Yorkshire Vet’, is one of the partners of the centre along with original Herriot trainee Peter Wright and they aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty as they treat all creatures great and small.
From the exotic to the everyday, a variety of creatures find themselves on the seats of Skeldale’s waiting room and one sheep who doesn’t make it into the operating theatre and has to be treated in the back of a car as every second counts.
The practice, steeped in history and rich with heritage, set up by the late Donald Sinclair and the late Alf Wight in 1940, resulting in Alf’s books and later the hit show ‘All Creatures Great & Small’ is still run with a good old fashioned ethos combined with today’s veterinary practices, specialising in both small animals and farm stock, and they travel across the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors.
As well as the vets, other popular characters including farmers Steve and Jeanie Green will be back, Yorkshire Vet, Julian Norton, said: “We were amazed by the popularity and success of series one and now we’re back and we have some wonderful stories that follows the changing seasons which we know our viewers will love.’
So popular was series one that tourism in Thirsk has increased since inspired by the beautiful Yorkshire landscape captured on the show.
In keeping with the theme ‘The Yorkshire Vet’ will again be narrated by actor Christopher Timothy, who played the role of James Herriot in the popular BBC TV show ‘All Creatures Great & Small’.
