VINTAGE TEA PARTY RAISES FUNDS FOR ALZHEIMER’S SOCIETY AND DEMENTIA UK

Local News

A Vintage tea party to raise much needed funds for Alzheimer’s Society and Dementia UK was a huge success raising nearly £3,000. The vintage theme was chosen in recognition of the anniversary of the official end of WW2

Organised by Crossgates Chiropody and Therapy Centre the event was supported and sponsored by local business.

With bunting hanging and the sun shining,The Andersons – 1940’s dance group along with DJ Big George, helped to pull in the crowds. Staff, clients and volunteers dressed in 1940’s costume served cream teas, held raffles and manned tombola and bric-a-brac stalls. An auction every 30 minutes with fantastic lots donated by local businesses saw many bidders take part all in good fun for a great cause. Also proving a popular attraction receiving a lot of admiration was the 1949 Citreon Traction Avante owned by staff member Patrick Rowley. Patrick and his father lovingly restored the car 20 years ago. He has enjoyed frequenting many events and was only too pleased to be at this one with his colleagues to help the cause.

With the day in full swing, the mood and atmosphere delighted all. Theressa Nicholson and Patricia Rocket-Lee of Crossgates Chiropody and Therapy Centre were overjoyed with the success of the day as they both feel it is extremely important to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society and Dementia UK.

Patricia has witnessed close family members suffer from the illness and the pair have also seen many regular clients go on to develop dementia too. As well as raising funds they also wanted to raise awareness and understanding.

Theressa said “we need to say a really big thank you to all our staff, friends and clients who have given up their time, donated items and dressed up for the tea party. This has been a real community effort too with a massive thank you going to all the local businesses who have donated and sponsored the event.”

The businesses who helped make the event such a success were:
