Walkabout Hounds

Business ReviewsFeatures

Walkabout Hounds was set up in May 2010 by husband and wife team, James and Davina to provide a dog walking and training service to the people of south Leeds, Wakefield and Castleford.

James has grown up with dogs and learnt a lot from his father including how to train gun dogs. 20 years later he has trained dogs for the Police and Armed Forces. He used this wealth of knowledge to set up the company and along with Davina there are now 6 members of staff all dedicated to providing your beloved pets with the training and exercise they need.

They use positive reinforcement and education to enable dogs to understand the rules and boundaries, therefore creating an environment where they can be themselves, have fun and enjoy life.

All the staff at Walkabout Hounds are trained in-house to a high standard and are fully insured, CRB and Police checked. The whole team are currently working on the KCAI scheme (Kennel Club Accredited Instructor Scheme).

This is a highly prestigious award which takes 5 years of training to achieve and is the only nationally recognised qualification in dog training. This means that in the next 12 months, Walkabout Hounds are hoping to be on the KC approved list of instructors and able to offer additional services such as the KC Good Citizens scheme.

The services currently on offer at Walkabout Hounds are:

• Group Walks (no more than 6 dogs)

• One to one Dog walking

• One to one training

• Training classes

• Doggy day care

• Puppy care

All the walks are personally tailored to the needs of each dog, taking into account their age, size and energy levels to provide them with the physical and mental stimulation that is just right for them.

James delivers one to one training for dogs with specific behavioural problems as well as those who just require general training.

There are also a number of training classes that take place at Swithens Farm, Rothwell. There are classes to suit all dogs, from the puppy classes and adult beginners through to advanced obedience, agility and flyball!

Walkabout Hounds are proud to now be offering Gun Dog training too.

The fortnightly classes run for 7 sessions ending in a gun dog test. Normally this would cost £150 but they are offering the training for half price if paid in advance which is just £75 for the full course. The gun dog training takes place initially at Swithens Farm, then moves into a more rural location as the course progresses to give the dogs and their owners a chance to practice their new found skills in a more natural environment.
