We Need Time, Not Money

Local News

If you are looking for a volunteering opportunity that offers you a fun, sociable day working with people then the Hollybush Project is the place for you.

We need helpers to work alongside our group members who are adults with special needs. Group members spend four days a week at Hollybush Conservation Centre in Leeds, doing a wide range of supported activities.

They do all sorts of things including;

• Work in the garden growing a variety of vegetables to enjoy and share with our community cafe

• Bake cakes and serve in the cafe

Work in TCV’s onsite woodwork workshop making planters, bird feeders and other garden items

• Have a go at all sorts of indoor crafts

• Go for walks, and help to look after the section of Leeds Liverpool Canal which goes past our wildlife garden.

• They also care for two raised beds at Kirkstall Abbey.

Emma, the Group Leader tells potential volunteers “The more help we have the more the group can achieve. It’s a very sociable group, they always seem to be making birthday cakes and some group members enjoy joining in with other volunteer socials at the centre. The programme is varied each quarter but revolves around the garden and outdoor activity in all but the coldest times of year. You don’t need any special skills as we can teach you what you need to know, but we are always pleased when people bring new ideas to the group.”

If you enjoy being with people and could give us one day or two days a week we’d love to hear from you. It’s great fun, and suited to anyone who can make a regular commitment.

“I started volunteering at Hollybush nearly two years ago, initially just in the Community Café but then also with the Learning Disability Project. Everyone is very friendly and I can recommend this to anyone who would like to volunteer” said Sheila, one of our volunteers from Kirkstall. Sheila joined the group as a helper after retirement.
