It’s that time of year again when both ardent and fair weather bikers don their leathers and head out to enjoy the best of Britain’s roads. Most bikers have their favourite routes, but for those looking for something extra, the AA’s new book Bikers’ Britain – The Tours is a must have for summer riding.
Following the success of Bikers’ Britain, which contained over 70 short routes and tours, author and Deputy Editor of RiDE magazine, Simon Weir was tasked with putting together a selection of the best riding the country has to offer in a series of carefully planned touring routes. Most routes were created specifically for this book.
The 44 tours are made up of 31 circular day-trip routes and 13 full tours from two to eight days in length providing something to suit all bikers. The tours are also not just about going from A to B, the routes are designed to take riders to the best destinations along the best biking roads in Britain.
The North of England features six day routes and two Northern England Tours of three days. The day routes include loops from Richmond, Skegness, Buxton, Ambleside, York and Scarborough taking in the amazing landscape and great riding roads. The first three-day tour is the High Mile Tour taking in the Peak District, Yorkshire Dales, Lake District and Pennines. The second tour is the Relaxed Tour which, as the title suggests, is an easier, more laid-back trip through the Lincolnshire Wolds, Yorkshire Wolds and Moors.
Each route is accompanied by a clear AA map as well as turn-by-turn directions and suggestions of places to stop along the route, all in an ideal format which fits snugly into a motorcycle tank bag.
For those new to touring, the book also has some very handy advice on preparing for a tour as well as how to pack and how to stay safe.
Bikers’ Britain – The Tours is available from all leading bookstores priced at £12.99
