Construction work to provide new council homes in Bramley is well underway.
With the former Lord Cardigan pub demolished in 2012 as part of the council’s derelict and nuisance property programme, the site is being transformed with eight new two-bedroom homes.
Local developers RDF Building Services have created a hive of activity, delivering works to the pre-agreed programme and costs.
They are ready to complete the roof on the first row of three townhouses while groundworks and foundations for the second row of five homes are complete.
The council agreed to buy the properties from the developer last year to help meet local housing needs.
The homes will provide spacious accommodation, making the most of layout, energy efficiency and quality design.
Residents will also benefit from their own generous back gardens and allocated off-street parking.
As well as building its own council homes, purchasing houses from developers is part of the council’s plans to help provide around 1,000 new council houses, particularly in areas where there is high demand.
Executive member for communities, Councillor Debra Coupar said:
“We need to be innovative in how we provide much needed council homes. As well as building our own homes, if we can purchase new homes from developers in areas where demand exceeds supply then we’ll make that investment.
“It’s great to see work cracking on at such a pace and as always, we’re looking forward to welcoming tenants to their new homes.”
Councillor Richard Lewis, executive member for regeneration, transport and planning said:
“Regenerating former derelict sites can have a massive, positive impact on communities. When the redevelopment includes affordable housing for rent in an area crying out for homes of this type, then we’re on to a winner.”
