Raising Money For Charity An Evening At Masala Hut

CharityLocal News

Masala Hut Indian Restaurant in Crossgates are used to raising temperatures with their much loved curries and recently they hosted a charity event that raised vital funds too!

The evening, in aid of the Donkey Assisted Therapy Centre was a great success and raised a grand total of £350 for the charity. The evening sold out with the lucky diners enjoying a buffet meal comprising of popadoms, starter, and main with rice and naan. There were also raffles held on the night with prizes supplied from the local community and businesses, including vouchers for Masala Hut.

The Donkey Assisted Therapy Centre is based at the Donkey Sanctuary, Eccup and provides therapy for children with disabilities and additional needs, through riding the donkeys who have themselves been rescued from abandonment and mistreatment. Riding the donkeys benefits the children by improving balance and posture, and they also play sensory based games to meet their particular needs. The £350 raised on the evening will go towards building a new outdoor sensory riding track that is planned for 2015. The charity need a total of £18,000 for the track and so far have managed to raise about half of the total through fund raising events such as this one. The provision of the outdoor track will enable more children to receive sensory therapy at the centre.  Any children with additional needs or disabilities are welcome, and often find out about the charity through word of mouth and referral from St James’s Child Development Unit.

Cathryn Dixon from the Therapy Centre told us “I have dined at Masala Hut several times and approached them about holding a charity evening for us. It was a fantastic event and a great success – we could have sold the tickets twice over! We will be organising another event next year.”

Kabir Miah, owner of Masala Hut said “This was a great opportunity for us to raise money for such a good cause. Masala Hut always like to support the local community and this was a successful evening for all involved. Everyone enjoyed themselves and we will be doing it again next year.”
