Leeds crime prevention network, BACIL (Business Against Crime in Leeds) has raised over £2,000 for the St Vincent’s Support Centre which helps and supports vulnerable people in and around the city. The majority of the money was raised from BACIL’s inaugural awards evening which honoured businesses and individuals who have taken a proactive stance towards tackling crime in the city.Rachael McGlynn, BACIL Co-ordinator, comments: “The BACIL Awards, which took place at the Leeds Marriot Hotel, was a fantastic event and we are delighted with the total money raised for St Vincent’s. They are a fantastic charity, who do lots of great work in and around Leeds to help people escape the poverty trap. We will continue to support them as our nominated charity this year and hope that we can exceed the amount raised when we once again hold the BACIL Awards in October 2016.”
Sheena Eastwood, Centre Manager at St Vincent’s, adds: “We are thrilled with the support we receive from BACIL. It is through donations such as these that we are able to provide help and support to those experiencing poverty and deprivation – whether that be in terms of income, employment, education or social networks – and help them build a brighter future. The services we provide at St Vincent’s aim to educate and empower people, giving them the confidence and skills to get out of poverty. ”
BACIL is a partnership body, made up of Leeds City Council, West Yorkshire Police, Safer Leeds and over 350 businesses throughout the Leeds day and night time economy – including retailers, bars and nightclubs. The organisation’s aim is to protect business premises in Leeds and make the city a safer place for everyone to work, shop and enjoy. Holding the annual awards event is a chance for the organisation to acknowledge the businesses and individuals who do so much to help the security services tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in the city.
