Bramley 2nd Cubs, Now 75yrs Old, Need Help To Improve The Facilities

Local News

Bramley 2nd Cubs have been running for nearly 75 years! There are currently in excess of 20 cubs, with beavers and scouts attending too. The groups take both boys and girls offering them lots of fun activities they can get stuck into, developing skills and experiencing new things along the way – even camping! The children can’t wait to go every week to see what they will be doing next, from arts and crafts to sports to learning about many new things in an exciting way. They love earning their badges and wear them with pride, just as generations before them have. In fact, cub leader Carol Chambers has been with the group for 35 years so may very well be entertaining the second generation of some families!
This much loved group however needs help to improve the facilities – their hut and surrounding outdoor space is in desperate need of repair and renovation. The hut and land was gifted to Bramley 2nd many years ago but due to lack of funding it is becoming increasingly dilapidated and damp.
Deborah Wilson, parent to one of the cubs told me “The cubs are a fantastic group, my son absolutely loves going and all the children get so much out of it. However, it’s such a shame as the facilities are so poor. Two of the rooms are completely unusable now due to damp. There is a lot of outdoor space with the hut and it would be fantastic if we could Astroturf it so there is a safe space for the children to play football and other games. Once renovated, the space could also be used by other community groups for meetings or parties.”
Any fundraising that the group does such as bag packing in local supermarkets goes back into providing activities for the children and subsidising camps so that they are accessible to all. This means that there is nothing left to fund the building repairs that are so vitally needed.
They would welcome a builder to assess and advise. If there are any local businesses, tradesmen and individuals who feel they are able to help in anyway it would be much appreciated by the group. This might be through donating materials, time and skills or through a financial donation.
