Spend some spooky time at Temple Newsam this Halloween half term! Meet the past residents of the estate including the notorious Blue Lady and see the house and farm dressed up for a truly spooktacular occasion. Get involved with creepy crafts and pick-up a camera to track down the ghosts of Temple Newsam House. Get your film developed at the end of your visit to see whether you managed to track down any mysterious characters in the darkened corridors. There are special treats in store for those who get dressed up too!
Please note that Home Farm will be open Monday – Sunday over half term, the house will be open Tuesday – Sunday.
As an added extra, dare you venture into the cellars of Temple Newsam House?! Explore the dark and scary route below the creaking floorboards, what horrors will await you?! Access to the cellars can be booked via timeslots between 22-30 October. Purchase your general admission tickets online and there will be the option to add it on for just £2 extra.
Please note that access to and from the cellar is via stairs only. The cellar is dark and has uneven surfaces. This experience may be unsuitable for children under 7 – parental discretion is required.

Visit Abbey House Museum this half term and experience the Victorian streets spookily decorated for Halloween.
They have scary spiders, wicked witches, wily wolves, bewitching bats and skeletons pulling pints.
There will also be a toddler trail for little ones to follow around the streets and spot the different objects as you explore.
Explore the streets then head upstairs to see the Curious Creatures exhibition, play on the penny slot machines and have fun in the toy galleries.

Visit the Pumpkin Patch at Cannon Hall Farm where some spookily good fun awaits.
See all the farm favourites like Millie and Primrose the pesky goat kids, plus Helen the hand-reared Alpaca, Ozzie Horseborne and Pony Hadley and new Highland Calf Lilibet.
As well as amazing outdoor and indoor playgrounds and animal talks, the pumpkin patch is the perfect place for you to capture those insta-worthy pictures.
The pumpkin patch is open until 5pm each day.
There are PLENTY of pumpkins that are being constantly replenished. Children who have a paid ticket are entitled to ONE free pumpkin each (no matter how big it is) and will be allocated a token on arrival.

Ghosts In The Gardens are coming back… the jilted bride that haunts the Hospitium, a crusading knight, even a few ghastly animals.
This year there will be more ghosts, in more gardens.
Cementing York’s reputation as one of the ghostliest cities in Europe, the York BID is bringing back Ghosts in The Gardens – the eerie sculptures which were installed in Museum Gardens last year.
This year’s display promises to be bigger and better as they are adding ghosts to more gardens – at Treasurer’s House, The Merchant Adventurers Hall, Middleton’s Hotel, Barley Hall, The Artists Garden and St Anthony’s Garden.
There are twenty-five ghosts in all to find.
Ghosts In The Gardens runs in Museum Gardens until 7 November 2022, from 9.00am to 6pm every day. Opening times for other venues vary – check online before visiting.

Join the October half term gentle lantern walk which is also the start of the winter fairy wood.
England’s Fairy Sanctuary is celebrating Halloween with the fairies, in this charming family event, featuring magical evening lantern walks and storytelling from Professor Howland’s extensive collection of true fairy histories and mythologies.
Guided lantern walks at dusk and first dark, aimed at little ones or those of all ages who would rather not be scared witless, but want to enjoy a more seasonal experience instead.
Arrive to the Northwood kitchen and have a free glass of alcoholic or non-alcoholic punch. Then there is a guided walk with storytelling guide cloaked in Autumn. Enjoy tales from Professor Howlands collection, as you stroll through a lantern lit fairy wood. Approximate total time 1 hour. Afterwards enjoy the Autumn grotto and the fairy museum and relax in the Northwood kitchen bar.
Very limited sessions with a maximum of 30 per session at 4pm, 5.30 and 7pm during the October half term. Come dressed for the season and weather with appropriate footwear. Parts of the walk in the woods are very dark, you may want to bring a lantern or small torch.
The Little York Ghost Hunt

Join the search each evening at dusk for the Little York Ghosts which hide on the streets that flank the Minster. This is a seek and keep hunt. The Ghost Merchants have been hiding little Ghosts around the city of York for many years and the act of hiding, seeking and the communal event that has grown around this activity is at the heart of Ghost Week. It is free to participate in and open to young and old – however people should exercise good grace, kindness and compassion while participating in the Ghost Hunt.
As twilight gives way to night the Merchants invite you to join the search each evening between 6pm and 8pm (Monday – Thursday only) for Little York Ghosts along the atmospheric ancient streets that surround York Minster.
There are 125 to find each evening and included in their number are some rare & unusual ones.
Maps will be available from The York Ghost Merchants, The Visitor Information Centre and selected independent retailers from mid October. There will also be a printable version of The Little York Ghost Hunt map available nearer the event at
