Leeds resident receives prize for Zero Carbon Home

Dr John Houghton-Moss of Leeds, has won the Moortown Environmental Group’s  2015 competition sponsored by IMSL Consulting for successfully reducing his home’s carbon foot-print.

Dr Houghton-Moss, who is the Managing Director of Deltic Designs, an environmental design business, spent just £240 on his gas and electric bills in the year 2014-2015 for his five bedroom detached house! With a £200 Winter Fuel Allowance from the Government his net outgoings were just £0.80 per week.

It is 10 years since Dr Houghton-Moss first designed a carbon-neutral house in East Yorkshire and this prize of carbon credits to the value of £240 now allows his current home to be recognised by the Moortown Environmental Group to be the first house in Leeds to be designated a Zero Carbon Home.

Moortown Environmental Group commented “We are working hard, with the sponsorship from IMSL Consulting, within the community to reduce Carbon Footprints. We are pleased to offer the prize to Dr  Houghton- Moss for his achievement in creating his Zero Carbon Home that benefits both himself and the environment.

IMSL Consulting’s Director,  Dr Ian Laidlaw studied at Bristol, Strathclyde and Sheffield Universities in the 1970s before being appointed as a lecturer in the Department of Geography at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth from 1978 – 2004. He resigned to set-up Laidlaw Enterprises and IMSL Consulting and is now a resident in Leeds with property interests in the Pyrenees Orientale in the SW of France.

Dr Ian Laidlaw  commented “For anyone who wants to reduce their home’s carbon footprint we can offer practical advice. We can also offer advice on energy-efficient heating control systems.
