Sport Leeds Announces Leeds Sports Awards 2015 Date

The city’s glamorous and glitzy sports awards will return to The New Dock Hall at the Royal Armouries on Thursday, March 5, to celebrate the achievements of Leeds’s most inspirational sporting stars.

Sport Leeds are also delighted to announce Asda as 2015 title sponsor of the Leeds Sports Awards.

The retailer was recently voted Community Retailer of the Year for the second year running and is an active supporter of sport and volunteering across the local communities to which they serve.

Asda contributes greatly to their local communities with every single Asda Store and Depot appointing a community life colleague with dedicated time and hours to support local good causes through either fundraising or volunteering through the retailers Community Life Programme.

To welcome Asda on board the event will see the introduction of Asda’s very own ‘Sporting Hero Award’. This award will be presented to an individual within the local community who is widely recognised for their outstanding sporting contribution to the local community, whether it be through volunteering, coaching or tireless work behind the scenes.

Richard Mason, Head of Asda in the Community said “We’re proud to sponsor the Leeds Sports Awards, recognising the fantastic achievements of sporting heroes across the city. I’m especially looking forward to celebrating the real unsung heroes of our local communities who spend their time volunteering day in day out and awarding the Asda Sporting Hero Award.”

2014 was oozing with incredible sporting achievements and unforgettable moments and the awards are an ideal opportunity for Leeds to celebrate the world class sporting talent of 2014.

Last year’s event saw a record number of over 550 attendees and it is hoped that following the excitement and success of the 2014 Commonwealth Games to see a further rise in attendance figures.

Councillor Lucinda Yeadon, Leeds City Council’s executive member for digital and creative technologies, culture and skills and member of the Sport Leeds Board said:

“The Leeds Sports Awards are a major highlight in the city’s sporting calendar and a chance to recognise the fantastic achievements of local athletes of all ages and abilities.

“It’s also a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the many unsung sporting heroes who work so hard behind the scenes to make sure Leeds is a city where sporting excellence can flourish.

“2014 has been an incredible year for sport in Leeds and one which has really seen the city come into its own both locally and on the world stage.

“I’m really looking forward to helping to give those who have made that possible the recognition that they so thoroughly deserve.”
