Diary Of A PawnbrokerFeatures

Summer is finally upon us, or so we are told. I know this because we have had lots of customers telling us that they are off to warmer climes for their holidays and escaping the best of the British weather.

Our Foreign Exchange department have been rushed off their feet dishing out Euro’s and Dollars and we have also had a lot of customers pawning their jewellery to get a bit of extra holiday spending money and to put their goods somewhere that is safe while they are away.

It’s a pretty clever plan when you think about it. They get some cash to get the best deals on their holiday or a few hundred pounds towards their spending and they have the peace of mind that their treasured possessions will be kept safely locked in our vaults while they are away.

The other area of growth this month is ‘Wedding Lending’. Lots of couples tie the knot in the summer months and borrowing a bit of extra cash can make all the difference to having a day to remember. It’s usually the mother of the bride who wants a loan to make things a little more special because the dad has been too tight and refuses to spend any more! Every loan is completely confidential so he never finds out until she sends him in with the ticket to collect the goods 7 months later!

I chatted to a good customer the other day and she was saying how she enjoyed reading the ‘diary of a Pawnbroker’ but would love to hear about any unusual or special items that have been preowned and we now have for sale. Well, we have had a few stunning pieces come into our branches recently so if anyone is feeling like treating themselves……..

There are two amazing diamond necklets – one is set in platinum with 15ct of diamonds and the other with 6ct of diamonds is set in 18ct white gold. Both these items have a valuation far in excess of our second hand price and well worth a look if you want to invest in some quality estate jewellery.

If anyone out there is a size ‘L’ we have a one of the nicest full eternity rings I have ever seen. Set in platinum with 5cts of G colour VS clarity diamonds it is valued at £26,000 but is in our window at better than half price at only £11,750 – a great investment if the slipper fits!

Alternatively with Wimbledon in full swing why not treat yourself to a 5ct tennis bracelet – again set with some stunning diamonds and a real bargain at £5650,or a mixed cut 18ct white gold pave set bracelet with 11.5ct of diamonds for £9950? Perhaps Mrs Murray might pop in if Andy wins again this year!

So if you chose to spend your money on a holiday and want some cash or just want to keep your goods safe, call in to Seacroft, Batley or Shipley and let us help.

Alternatively you could brave the British weather and invest in something you can keep for generations to come. That way you can borrow against it the following year when your need a break or have it in reserve should your daughter get married!
