Somebody you may not have heard of yet but most definitely should. Loud, funny, vibrant and sensitive: words that describe British singer, songwriter and pop provocateur CAITY BASER just as easily as they describe her music.

Hailed as a one to watch by many, Caity has seen her enormous fanbase explode in a matter of months. In support of her EP Thanks For Nothing, See You Never she is setting off on a UK tour of the same name this spring that will without a doubt showcase the personal connection that Caity has built between her and her audience. She’ll be at Leeds Stylus on 17th April.

■ Billie Marten

BILLIE MARTEN is back with her fourth album Drop Cherries, her first record she has both written and co-produced, out April 7th.  Billie’s last album Flora Fauna was lavished with praise, and earned singles to land on radio playlists for BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music and Radio X.  Alongside Drop Cherries album release, Billie’s year is lined up with intimate in-store sets, a North America and UK tour and an anticipated performance supporting The Lumineers this summer. Billie plays The Brudenell Social Club on 20th May

This is almost as exciting as the much-missed Casiotone darlings of the New Yorkshire indie movement that spawned the likes of The Cribs, The Long Blondes and ¡Forward, Russia!; THE RESEARCH have announced their return with ‘Back To The Real World’, announcing the band’s first release in fifteen years.  Consisting of Russell Searle, Georgia Lashbrook and Sarah Williams, the Wakefield-born power trio cemented their place in West Yorkshire’s musical history with their lo-fi synth sounds; self-deprecating lyrics and bittersweet, barbershop vocal harmonies. The Research released their debut album, ‘Breaking Up’, in 2006 through EMI subsidiary At Large Recordings, with singles such as ‘Lonely Hearts Still Beat The Same’ and ‘The Way You Used To Smile’ showcasing the band’s tongue-in-cheek take on romantic tragedy. Having swapped At Large for This is Fake DIY, The Research stayed true to their roots; setting up shop in an attic in Wakefield with producer and local legend Jamie Lockhart (Mi Mye, Greenmount Studios) to record ‘The Old Terminal’. This second album found the band taking on a more expansive sound; with tracks like ‘Lost Souls In The Vapours’ and ‘Rockin’ The Boat With My Friends’ Starting again where it all began the first time around, The Research are set to launch the new single at Wakefield’s beloved Long Division Festival which, after twelve years, is happening for the final time across multiple venues in the city on Saturday, 10th June. A triumphant return to the band’s classic casio sound, ‘Back To The Real World’ will be released as a limited run, double A-side 12” single through FairSound; the innovative, pre-order e-commerce vinyl platform established by ground-breaking, northern independent vinyl pressing plant, Press On Vinyl. ‘Back To The Real World’ will be available to pre-order through FairSound and a limited number of copies will be available for purchase at Long Division.

■ Busted

Impossible though it may seem, it’s been twenty years since BUSTED bounced into the charts with the irrepressible pop-punk energy of their debut single ‘What I Go To School For’. It kickstarted a succession of hits for the trio, including the #1smashes ‘Crashed The Wedding’, ‘Who’s David’, ‘Thunderbirds Are Go’, ‘You Said No’ and the Top 3 singles ‘Year 3000’, ‘Air Hostess’ and ‘Sleeping With The Light On’. Now Busted celebrate their 20th anniversary by announcing details of a First Direct Arena date on 17th September, alongside a series of new versions of fifteen of their classic hits to be released in the build-up, with some very special guests.

Supporting Busted will be the iconic HANSON. The pop trio brothers are behind hits including the number 1 smash ‘MMMBop’, ‘Where’s The Love’, ‘I Will Come To You’ and ‘Penny & Me’. The line-up will also feature New Hope Club, who scored a Top 5 hit with their self-titled debut album and have since exceeded 2 billion streams. The first track to launch the 20th anniversary celebrations will be a new version of Busted’s song ‘Loser Kid’ featuring Simple Plan, which will be released on 14th of this month.
