Pupils at White Laith Primary school in Leeds raised a staggering £1,589.40 for the NSPCC by completing super circuits of yoga, dance, showing off their throwing and catching skills and even ribbon twirling and gym ball challenges. The pupils were keen to fundraise for the charity after volunteers from the NSPCC delivered a Speak Out Stay Safe Assembly. Young Sports Ambassadors at the school helped the smaller children participate. The school has just over 200 pupils so to raise an incredible amount of money was fantastic.
Mrs Nicola Sheerin, Headteacher said: “I am so proud of the entire school community, our pupils have raised an incredible amount to help other young children. The School Council were very keen to get all pupils involved in our fundraising for the NSPCC. They have done a wonderful job of engaging and arranging the fun filled sports activities and we have loved this chance to use some brand new sporting equipment.”
In the Leeds district over the 2016/17 school year NSPCC volunteers spoke to 24,316 children and visited 88 primary schools to deliver their Schools Service programme, teaching children how to keep themselves safe from abuse and neglect.
For each of the primary schools they visit NSPCC volunteers present two slightly different assemblies – one for the younger children in Key Stage One, and another for the older Key Stage Two pupils. The aim is to help children understand about different types of abuse so that they can get help if or when they need it.
The assembly helps children to identify a trusted adult they can speak to if they are ever worried about themselves or a friend along with information about Childline.

It is so brilliant for such a small school to have raised so much and they have genuinely shown they have a very large heart.”
