A charity bike ride organised by Adam Stephenson was another success. Each year for the past 3 years a group of cyclists have ridden from Yarnbury Rugby Club to Yarnbury in Grassington.
Now in its 3rd year, 79 cyclists were back in the saddle and battled against strong winds on Saturday 6th June to complete 99 miles over 2 days. The bike ride was a huge success, not only in terms of fundraising for The Haven Breast Cancer Charity but also bringing the community together. The ages ran from 20 to 59 and everyone looked fabulous in their pink cycling tops. After each of the cyclists had their bacon sandwich, it was starting marks with the help from Stuart Andrews the local MP. The cycle ride started in Horsforth and continued through beautiful countryside. Their route took them through country lanes with some amazing views until it reached Grassington village where the cyclists were met with such applause from the locals.
The Yarnbury cyclists were greeted by crowds of friends and family on their return to the rugby club, where a presentation was made and trophys given out. Amy Ryan 21 from Horsforth received the best lady on the bike award.
The Haven Breast Cancer Charity is based in Leeds and offers a free programme of in-depth support to improve the quality of life of anyone affected by breast cancer, anyone is welcome and there is no need for a referral. For more details thehaven.org.uk
