A new artwork competition has been launched for children across Yorkshire by Yorkshire Coast BID and SEA LIFE Scarborough as part of its 100 Protect Pledge initiative.
The competition invites children from across the county to design a brand-new seal mascot which will be showcased as part of the ‘Seal of Approval’ campaign, which honours coastal businesses who take into account environmental considerations.
Running until the 18th October, all those under 16 have the opportunity to design the mascot which will front the campaign, with entries submitted online at – www.bit.ly/3Qg2Nm0.
Not only will the winning design be used to front the ‘Seal of Approval’ campaign as part of the 100 Protect Pledge, but the winner will also receive a VIP experience featuring ‘Breakfast with the Seals’ at SEA LIFE Scarborough.
The Yorkshire Coast Business Improvement District’s (YCBID) 100 Protect Pledge is a commitment to 100 pledges that will protect the coastal beauty and preserve it for the future, ensuring that it continues to thrive for future generations to enjoy.
From eco-friendly activities such as beach cleans, to EV chargers installed across the coast, the 100 annual pledges will place emphasis on sustaining the coast and its wildlife that calls it home.
This campaign will see businesses encouraged to meet green environmental criteria to be awarded the ‘Seal of Approval’. From eco-friendly packaging, to partaking in beach cleans ups, there will be a range of ways for Yorkshire Coast BID members to make a difference and get involved to protect the amazing Yorkshire Coast.
Speaking on the partnership with SEA LIFE and upcoming activity, Chair, Clive Rowe-Evans, said: “This is one of the exciting next steps in our 100 Protect Pledge, and we’re delighted to be partnering with SEA LIFE, whose work in the region truly supports our mission. The ‘Seal of Approval’ will not only bring attention to these amazing local animals, but it will also help support businesses to become greener acting as a symbol of good environmental practice.”
Andy Turner, General Manager at SEA LIFE Scarborough, added: “SEA LIFE Scarborough is home to Yorkshire’s only Seal Hospitals which work to rescue, rehabilitate and eventually release back into the wild these beautiful creatures. It’s great to be working with the Yorkshire Coast BID on this initiative and shine a light on the work we do in the region. We look forward to welcoming our lucky winner for a very special breakfast with the seals!”
